Wonderful Week -
Stayed with partner
This campsite is exactly what we wanted. It is, as advertised, simple, natural, rustic. It is in a beautiful location, has large pitches, water, hot showers, somewhere to charge phones and freeze blocks and lovely people. We can’t wait to go back.

Two nights camping - Stayed with partner
Lovely site, friendly hosts.  21/09/2020

Love this place - Stayed with family
What a beautiful place to stay, not your usual campsite, so relaxing and Nick & Vicky just could not do enough for us. Would recommend to anyone. We stayed in one of the cottages on site and we all loved it. Just a short drive to all the best beaches18/09/2020

Beautiful Location, Great Accommodation - Stayed with family
We stayed in a shepherds hut, which was lovely and clean and very cosy with the woodburner lit. Children loved meeting the llamas, ponies and other animals and are still talking about them! Really friendly and helpful owners and a beautiful situation. The hammock and campfire seating were lovely and its location so close to beaches is great. Unfortunately we visited in torrential rain and gale force winds so didn't experience it at its very best but would love to come back in slightly more clement weather!  17/09/2020

Fantastic rural campsite - Stayed with family
We loved staying at Strawfields (despite some rainy weather!), the toilet & showers were kept very clean throughout our stay, & although basic facilities, everything was well tended to. We will definitely be back :)  15/09/2020

Great peaceful stay - Stayed with family
We had a great stay. The Sheperds hut, covered kitchen and wee shack/shower was great. We enjoyed sitting out in front of the campfire or laying in the hammock. Sheperds hut cozy and fine for 4, children are 11 and 15, bed was a little snug for the oldest, so consider bringing a small tent if you have larger children. The solar powered fairy lights and 4 usb charging ports were surprisingly effective and we had good 4 G signal, but bring a torch as it is an electricity free site. We used the flushing toilet block too, clean and easy to use. The play barn was a little dirty (a swallow had decided to nest over the pool table) but children enjoyed being able to play pool and table tennis. Visiting the animals was also a hit. Sadly the other play equipment and the trampolines were out of bounds due to Covid, but good reminders about Covid up in public areas and hand sanitizer available. Check in a little confusing, turns out you just turn up and move in, check out easy as you just do the same in reverse. Due to Covid check out was a 9. The small road running past the site is used as a rat run, busy with fast cars, so dont try to walk or run on it. We enjoyed the surrounding areas, beaches, pubs and towns and will definitely be back. 08/09/2020

Lovely campsite - Stayed with family
We had the most lovely stay here on August bank holiday. The facilities are super clean and it's easy to keep to social distancing. The children were enchanted by the ponies and the stream too. We camped but the shepherds huts look so idyllic we're going to book one of them for next year!   04/09/2020

Stay in Shepherd's Hut - Stayed with family
The site was very tidy, with signs on the facilities and different areas of the site. The hut was cosy, clean and had information on where things were, how to use the facilities and what to do when leaving. Having the adjacent covered area was helpful for storing food, drink and wet clothing. The hot shower was great and the shared toilet facilities were kept very clean. There are a couple of shared trolleys to move luggage, etc. to and from your car.   04/09/2020

The answer is yes, what's the question? - Stayed with family
We arrived immediately before Storms Ellen and Francis! We had family members in two tents which were sodden after the first night. Immediately Alex agreed that they could all bunk in with us in Owl Cottage where they spent the rest of the holiday (we binned one tent). Alex and her husband went our of their way to look after everyone on the site, making sure that their tents were secure and loaning a spare tent when someone else's tipped over completely and was ripped to shreds. The weather was foul and fair in equal measure and Alex and family put a smile on everyone's face, even in the teeth of a raging gale. They really went the extra mile and answered yes before we had even asked the question. Highly recommended for both cottages and campsite.  01/09/2020

First impression - Stayed with family
A fabulous site for a truly back to basics camping trip   01/09/2020

Another relaxing visit - Stayed with family
Our 4th visit to Strawfields, this time staying in the hobbit yurts. Arrived during one storm and left during another but felt safe in the yurts and owners did check all was ok. We keep returning as we find the site so relaxing, it is simple and rustic but it’s nice to get away and be able to “switch-off”. Showers and toilets were cleaned regularly and plenty of hand sanitiser available due to Covid. If you’re wanting a chilled, laid back, simple break then would definitely recommend. Have previously stayed in the shepherd huts and now they come with their own shower and toilet we shall try and book one of them again. Owners are friendly and helpful, just drop them a text when you arrive and they will pop over to greet you.  30/08/2020

Peaceful stay - Stayed with partner
The Lilypad was great for a peaceful stay. The water in the shower was hot and good pressure. We were impressed with the bed (thought it might have been small!) and fire pit outside. We would definitely come to stay again!   28/08/2020

A little piece of heaven... - Stayed with family
Strawfields lived up to its expectations! Alex and Nick have created a very special place for families to enjoy, going above and beyond what is needed on a campsite. It is a beautiful environment, well thought out and maintained, ideal for families with lots of space, a stream to play in and animals to enjoy - and plenty of hot water! The site is ideally placed half way between Exmoor and the fantastic North Devon beaches and even during COVID there is plenty to do around and about. We will definitely be going back.   27/8/20

Amazing little site -Stayed with family
Amazing little site.  Super relaxing and perfect for families. 26/08/20

Charming child friendly campsite - Stayed with friends
A lovely peaceful campsite with lots of well thought out details. Safe for little ones to roam. Very clean with welcoming owners and a real family feel. We will definitely return.   23/08/2020

Great stay despite the bad weather - Stayed with partner
Campsite is clean, eco-friendly and run by friendly people. We stayed after the covid pandemic while certain restrictions were still in place and during bad weather so it it hard to give a full review however we still had a great time and the campsite is nice with a great atmosphere I would definitely recommend for families.  20/08/2020

Brilliant site! We will be back! - Stayed with family
We had a lovely stay at the Strawfields Campsite! One of the best campsites I have stayed on and we are heading back this summer. We loved it's location - really easy to get to all the amazing local beaches and along the coast to the west to Lynton/Lynmouth. The booking process and check-in were extremely easy and straight forward. The site was well maintained and you could tell that the owners take great pride and care in their site! The toilets/wash-facilities were well maintained and cleaned regularly. The site was spread out and I really liked that the site was car-free but that trolleys were provided to move things from your car to your pitch. Simple additions like wetsuit drying lines were appreciated. The site owners were extremely friendly and accommodating and it was an absolute pleasure to stay on this site! We are heading back very soon! Thank you!  20/08/2020

Lovely camping spot - Stayed with family
Lovely site, friendly helpful owners. Would recommend to families.  19/08/2020

Sweet and quiet camping spot - Stayed with partner
Well defined, large flat pitch areas. On a hill above a stream and can see the Alpacas and farm animals on the other side of the stream. Nice, quiet camping spot for families.  19/08/2020

Peaceful and beautiful - Stayed with family
We enjoyed 3 nights during the Covid summer and really valued the space and peace away from it all. The fire pits and stream were a huge hit all round and the proximity to Croyde and Woolacombe made it an ideal location. It is a fabulous family site that is really well cared for. They had given careful thought to how the site could work with social Distancing in mind.  19/08/2020

Wonderful stay at this family-friendly cottage - Stayed with family
We stayed in Owl Barn for a week and had a fantastic time. The cottage is much bigger than expected, it was really clean and had everything that we needed. The garden was lovely to catch the morning sun, and a gate led straight to the play fields which was brilliant for the kids. It was such a relaxing time, and the children loved the trampolines, swings, animals and playing with the other children. This made the holiday as it meant we could just relax while they had the 'best time ever'. It's in a great location for some of the best beaches and walks in Devon. The hosts were very friendly and helpful, and we'd definitely return.    10/08/2020

Fabulous location - Stayed with family
Quiet, back to basics campsite. Friendly, helpful owners. My girls liked all the animals. Fabulous location near great beaches and seaside towns.   06/08/2020

Summer 2020 - Stayed with friends
Loved the mini yurts. Very comfy beds & much better than our own tent would have been! My daughter also loved all the animals & we had a great time!  14/07/2020

Tranquil getaway - Stayed
The shepherds hut I stayed in (The Nook) was exactly what I needed, back to basics in a beautiful setting. Despite the unpredictable weather I was able to cook my food outdoors over the fire, boil water and relax in peace and quiet. The bed was comfy and very warm, no extra blankets needed, the log burner was lovely to take away the chill of the evening and the farmhouse and toilets/shower were just a short walk away. Listening to the running stream at the bottom of the hill and showering in what I would call rustic showers made me feel like I was part of nature. I was not disturbed by other hut users as there is good space between them. The only thing I will say is having 2 bolts to close the doors inside did make me question if they were secure enough when the wind was blowing a hooley and I could feel a draught coming through and one of the windows had a leak at one point during a good bout of rain but this added to the back to nature feel. Also, it would be nice to have some instructions for lighting the log burner, this may sound obvious but would be very useful for novices and maybe some suggestions of local places to buy the basics, either the local supermarket or if there are independent places to buy bread, milk and eggs to maybe support your neighbours? I had a fantastic stay, have recommended it already and hope to return again.  16/09/2019

Better than I expected! - Stayed with partner
We traveled 280 miles to Strawfields and I would do it again! I wanted to go somewhere away from everything, secluded and quiet. I also wanted to go somewhere dog friendly as that's very important to me. The atmosphere was lovely, the location was lovely and quiet even with the animals in the next field! My partner and I had the best time and loved everything about it. The only downside to the quiet was screaming children from another hut nearby which wasn't the campsites fault of course. But would have preferred maybe adult only next time.  13/09/2019

Restorative peaceful camping - Stayed with family
My daughter's and I enjoyed a wonderful sunny weekend at Strawfields. Pizza and breakfast were delicious and a great help to me camping with kids on my own. Such a short drive to stunning beaches. Even on August BH we found peaceful beaches which pleased us greatly. Alex was always available and happy to answer questions . I would have liked a compost bin. But understand this can be difficult to manage on a campsite. We had a lovely restorative camp at Strawfields. Thank you so much see you again!  30/08/2019

Simple, but just perfect - Stayed with family
What a wonderful time we've just had in our little Shepherd's hut 'The Nook'. Being warm and dry but with all the joys of camping such as fires, views of fields, meandering streams and cooking outside was perfect balance. Inca entertained the children for hours as did the morning feeding of animals. Also very accessible to lots of great attractions from beaches, to steam railways. Even managed to walk to the pub, although might be worth getting some directions as not sure wading through a stream was quite the right route, albeit v entertaining. Highly recommend this wonderful campsite.  27/08/2019

Nice basic rural campsite - Stayed with partner
Strawfields is a back to basics camp. It has large pitches, mostly flat. Facilities are everything you need, proper toilets, a couple of good hot showers and a decent washing up area. Only negative with the toilets while we were there was that they tended to get quite wet in the rain but that was more due to the heavy rain falling almost horizontally. Really friendly family who run the site, well worth going to the twice weekly pizza night.  21/08/2019

First visit - Stayed with family
Amazing shepherds huts in a simple, rustic environment. Utterly tranquil and relaxing.  16/08/2019

Excellent rustic campsite - Stayed with family
Really loved this campsite and kids had a great time running around and making friends with other campers. Pizza nights were brilliant. Staff really friendly and helpful. Good hot showers in rustic wooden cabin. Only minor drawbacks were no hot water for washing up and no access to the games room for campers (for use by cottages and huts only). The games room seemed rarely used and would have been a great place to spend a little time on wet and windy days when being inside a tent or on the beach was not too appealing.  14/08/2019

Beautiful, small and friendly gem of a campsite - Stayed with partner
Lovely wooden facilities, very friendly family running it and gorgeous surroundings. It was uncrowded because the pitches are spread out. Lovely in every way.  04/08/2019

What a beautiful campsite! - Stayed with partner
A wonderfully laid out place, with great facilities maintained well by Alex and Nick. Games room with pool table and animal visits were great as well. Will definitely be returning!  04/08/2019

Week at Strawfields - Stayed with partner
Lovely small campsite in beautiful rural setting. A real back to nature site.   04/08/2019

Beautiful quiet stay - Stayed with partner
We stayed in the lily pad and it was idyllic. The hut was comfortable and views from the hut were delightful. The site is lovely and the showers in the shower block are hot and powerful.  15/07/2019

All round great place for families - Stayed with family
What a fabulous place. We wanted a peaceful campsite that allowed campfires and it exceeded our expectations. Super hospitable hosts, great pizza night, animals for the children to see, plus all the delights of Woolacombe and surrounding area. A week was not enough.  10/07/2019

Weekend break at Strawfields - Stayed with partner
This is the second time we have stayed here as a couple. Alex is friendly, helpful and will tend to any needs we have. The shepherd's huts are comfortable and adorable. The area feels like your own despite others staying nearby. Peaceful and eco friendly clean and tidy. Hot showers and plenty of easy parking. Fire pits outside and also log fire inside hut made us feel cozy and romantic. Wish we could have more time to do nothing but admire the sunsets and soak up the stress free and tranquil surrounding areas. Alex offers other attractions from the house such as charging points and special nights of fun. Love it loads!  28/06/2019

An Absolutely Wonderful Stay! - Stayed with family
We stayed in the Nook Shepherds hut and it was wonderful, so comfortable, clean and tidy. We were made to feel very welcome and felt very looked after. The pizza night on Saturday was excellent and the tour of the animals was wonderful for the little one. The site is beautifully maintained and the facilities excellent...hot showers were most welcome! The setting is stunning and the owners Alex and Nick could not have been more helpful with our electric car needs....they even joined us for a bottle of fizz to celebrate our engagement whilst we were there. Lovely couple! We will definitely return, a finer shepherd hut stay for a really good price you will not find elsewhere!  27/06/2019

Long weekend at the Hayloft - Stayed with family
Fantastic rural quiet location. We loved the games room for entertainment. Walks on coastal paths, Mortehoe and woolacombe. Local indoor pool at Ilfracombe was superb. Walk into the harbour at Ilfracombe full of interest. Heddon valley visit was beautiful with plenty of walks. The pub at West Down was convenient and very reasonable. All in all a very relaxing enjoyable stay.  21/06/2019

Lily Pad at Strawfields - Stayed with partner
My partner and I stayed at the Lily Pad shepherds hut. It was lovely - a little out of the way from the others and overlooking a pond. The bed was comfortable, and we were warm enough - there was also a log burner with wood ready prepared. We had our own toilet and shower which was much appreciated as the shower block and main toilet was a little walk away (2 mins). The shower wasn't actually working when we stayed, but that didn't bother us as there were 3 working and hot showers at the shower block. There as also a fire pit, bbq and seating area and wood to buy for the small price of £5. In the games room there is a freezer and plug which was useful. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay - beautiful and peaceful site, and the staff were really helpful. We'd definitely visit again!   20/06/2019

Great place that is not too big
Lovely setting and a really nice size which isn't too big and crowded. Next time I'll book one of the huts as they look amazing.   06/06/2019

Lovely staff and beautiful setting - Stayed with family
We had a lovely time at Strawfields. Perfect if you want to get back to basics but with a flushing loo. Our 5 year old was happy to play on the slide and explore the shallow brook at th bottom of our camp site. The wildfire pizza night was a massive hit! The showers are a bit temperamental (change temp when loos flush) but lovely pressure and hot. Not much play equipment for children but our 5 year old loves to explore so the brook and grassy area was fine for him. When there were other children they all played football on the playing field. We love that there are no cars allowed on the campsite. Wheelbarrows are perfect for getting our gear from the car. The surrounding area is amazing to explore with an arts trail, dinosaur and wildlife park, beaches, coves, ports etc all within 30min drive. Thanks Alex for a wonderful stay. Hopefully we can stay longer next time.  06/06/2019

Great thanks - Stayed with family
Thanks  02/06/2019

Love this place - Stayed with friends
Strawfields is a great " glamping " oasis without the hefty price tag. It is pretty rustic but the Shepherd Huts have comfy beds and are very cosy. The covered area outdoors is a great shelter from the rain and fire pits are great.  01/06/2019

Lovely stay at Strawfields - Stayed with partner
We had a really lovely stay at Strawfields. Beautiful natural surroundings and super friendly hosts. Lovely hot showers and amazing pizza! Enjoyed playing table tennis in the barn, which was a lovely thing to do on a rainy morning. Super we could make a fire in the evening, would highly recommend! Just be prepared to have to wheelbarrow (provided) all your camping gear to your pitch, however, it is so nice to be able to camp without looking at cars everywhere and makes it safer for kids Thanks for a lovely stay!!   01/06/2019

GREAT FAMILY BREAK AT STRAWFIELDS FARM - Stayed with family

Highly recommended - Stayed with family
I could highly recommend. Alex and Nick where so welcoming, and helpful, a lovely couple. The area is perfect with lovely sandy beaches, or alternative beautiful scenery with cliffs and beautiful walks. Something for everyone's taste. Will definitely be booking again.  24/05/2019
